A false dawn as I thought!

At this time of year I always debate with myself whether to waste my time and money on the League cup.

Last night because I’d missed the Fulham game and it was free I went to the Rochdale game.

Steve Bruce made 9 changes, some worked and some didn’t. Diame was excellent, considering he’d been out for so long. Two turns in particular were outstanding. As Peter Swan said in his commentary he stood head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. The other success was Greg Luer who took his goal with aplomb.

As for the rest and the game it was average to say the least. Hernandez must be the most infuriating player to manage. He missed an absolute sitter and another with better awareness he should’ve scored.

As for Rochdale they showed the sort of commitment the City players should have. They passed and passed but never seemed to have the final killer ball. Every time I see Jakupovic in goal I worry and I’m staring to feel the same about Maguire. Taylor wasted 2 out of 3 free kicks and was unsure defensively. Odubajo made such a difference when he came on.

The best you can say is we are through to the next round against Swansea but will we get any further, no not with a display or a team like that!

It was grim, the only thing that made it bearable was the return of Diame. After he went off the rest of them looked as if they didn’t know what to do, just pleased it did not go to extra time, as down from Brid.
