Hull City’s new chairman is Paul Duffen, but what do we know about the club’s new owner and his two partners that make up the consortium.

Duffen takes control of the Tigers having been a CEO of a “Newsplayer Group” that sold important video clips from the last one hundred years. In turn, this organisation was part of the ‘Catalyst Media Group’ for which Duffen is best known.

The success of this company has been huge with ‘Time Tunnel’ being the largest online collection of key moments in history. In addition, ‘Screen Player’ is the largest collection in the world of movie related clips including trailers and interviews.

Duffen’s business wealth, along with his consortium was enough for the three of them to make an attempt to bid for West Ham United that was eventually sold for £80 million. The consortium also made an unsuccessful bid for Cardiff City believed to be around the £30 million mark. Neither attempt was unsuccessful due to a lack of funds but due to the difficult circumstances at West Ham. The bid for Cardiff City fell through despite extensive negotiations due to the Welsh club deciding on a different course of action.

Duffen, who is the leader of the consortium, is joined by Russell Bartlett and Martin Walker who are both property developers. The consortium has brought out Adam Pearson’s shares in both the club and the Stadium Management Company, with Bartlett and Walker becoming key members in the SMC.

Adam Pearson, who is staying on in an advisory role at the club spoke about the new consortium to the Yorkshire post;

‘We have had to make sure they have not just got the money to purchase the club, but also the money to invest in the team over a two- to five-year period.’

‘These guys have quite clearly shown that they do have the financial resources to do that.’
