It couldn’t really have been a better afternoon for Hull on Saturday with, following the goalless first half, Jake Livermore putting City ahead shortly before the hour. That least was soon doubled when Abel Hernandez curled in the second with Sam Clucas making sure late on when Robert Snodgrass set him up.

These were the other results.

With leaders Middlesbrough seeing their game at Blackburn postponed this opened the door to Derby, who in winning two-nil against Fulham moved to the top of the Championship table.

Bolton’s troubles continued with them hammered by fellow strugglers Rotherham (who made it back-to-back wins) four-nil with Cardiff losing more ground on the play-off places with a defeat at MK Dons, who eased their troubles slightly as the year moves closer to an end.
