Manager Steve Bruce has said he’s hoping to see Hull City make it to at least the group stages of the Europa League in our maiden European competition.

Hull are set to face AS Trencin and have headed out to Slovakia today ahead of the game, so speaking to the Hull Daily Mail before we departed the gaffer explained that he wanted us to take in some good foreign opposition this season, and to do that, we have to qualify for the groups.

‘Our goal is to get into the group stage, where we could face some of the big names in European football. That is the carrot for us, in terms of why we need to make sure we get through both qualifying rounds if at all possible. That’s what I will tell the players, this is a step into the unknown in a lot of ways, so we will just have to wait and see.’

Bruce goes on to say that for him, this part is the ‘beauty’ of Europe though because it’s not about Spain, Italy or Germany, it’s meeting sides you wouldn’t normally hear about, let alone face, and the challenge that can bring.

It will also be a special occasion for the gaffer as the Trencin game will make his 100th match in charge of the club.
