Speaking to the Official Site firstly in his post game press interviews, a pleased gaffer was delighted to see us gain back to back victories for the first time this season.

‘We didn`t really want the first half to end. We played some really, really good stuff and had some really good chances. We passed the ball quickly, we moved quickly, showed pace in vital areas and looked a very decent team which was good to see. If the third goal comes for us just after half time, it could have gone on to be one of those great afternoons, but it didn`t and so then it is a case of managing the game and I thought we did that.’

Bruce went on to say he felt we were always comfortable in the match and he doesn’t recall Allan McGregor making a save of note outside of the early chance they had.

‘All round it was a very good performance. The energy we showed and the willingness to get the ball forward quickly was the most pleasing aspect for me as that is something we have been working on. We could have scored five or six. We`re slowly but surely getting used to playing in this division.’

Moving up into second place with the three points, we are now four behind leaders Brighton but the main pleasure for the gaffer was in proving we had no lingering hangover following relegation.

‘We`re just over a quarter of the way through the season now and the most important thing was to lift the doom and gloom around the place. For too long, there was too much negativity coming out of the club. We had to be patient and see what happened, but we`ve still got a fantastic-looking squad on paper and they`re now starting to reach their potential. Let`s not forget that we`ve got young players everywhere – Robertson, Clucas, Hernandez, Akpom, Maguire – all very young and learning their trade. The experienced ones are helping them along and it all goes to make up a nice mix.’

Ahead of Tuesday’s game against Leicester City in the Capital One Cup, Sone Aluko is a doubt having withdrawn from the match day squad ahead of the warm up after injuring his side and Alex Bruce needs to be monitored having come off with a groin problem.

For Clucas, in his interview after the game he talked about how he felt Hull were really starting to click now.

‘I think our last two performances have been more like us. We`re starting to get into a run with things now and we`ve managed to keep the same side for the last couple of games, with the exception of Curtis Davies who got injured. We`ve really started playing in the last two games and that is what we`re about. Hopefully we can continue this form and see where it takes us. I thought we were excellent in the first half on Saturday and managed to get two goals. It was a good performance all-round. We kept Birmingham`s attack quiet and that was a bit part in our victory.’
