Steve Bruce has made keeping James Chester at the club a priority as he looks to make a third contract offer to the City centre-back in the coming weeks.

The 24 year old has one year left on his current contract and has previously stalled contract negotiations with City having made two contract offers to the influential defender in January 2013.

Arriving for £300,000 from Manchester United in 2011, Chester has made 114 appearances for the club, scoring on four occasions and featured in 44 or 46 league games in City`s successful promotion season.

Bruce will also look to sort Chester`s situation quickly with Aston Villa, known admirers from the last transfer window, rumoured to be ready to make a move should contract negotiations stall any longer.

Despite having no top flight experience, Chester will be sure to be an integral part of the City side that will look to retain their newly achieved top flight status and as such, it is imperative that Bruce moves to keep the defender at the club.
