21 year old Max Clark has admitted that as he continues his development he can expect to be in and out of the Hull City first team but all he can do in the meantime is to continue working hard out on the training pitches.

Having played all 90 minutes in the first five Championship matches at the beginning of the season, the local born youngster was an unused substitute in the next four games as Stephen Kingsley took his starting spot, but he was back as a substitute in the September defeat to Preston North End, before returning to the starting eleven for the huge victory over Birmingham City last weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media this October international break, Clark explained he was showing improvement in each and every game and he was delighted to have racked up 592 minutes so far this year.

‘Being in and out of the side is part and parcel of being a footballer, especially at my age. Obviously I`d been out of the starting line-up for a few games, but I just got my head down, worked hard in training and waited patiently for my next opportunity, which came against Preston and Birmingham.’

He went on to say.

‘I was delighted to be back in the starting line-up against Birmingham, although it was unfortunate that it came about through Stephen Kingsley suffering an injury because you never want to see your any of your team-mates out injured. But, it`s given me another chance to impress and stake my claim and that`s what I`m determined to do. I feel as though I`m getting better and improving with every game I play. Going forward, my approach will remain the same as it has been from day one of pre-season – day-by-day and game-by-game. All I can do is continue to work hard and see where it takes me.’

Reflecting more on Hull’s overall start to the campaign, Clark believes it’s been a steady start as we sit in 17th place with 12 points from 11 games, but the aim is more consistency going forward when the international break ends.

‘It`s been a steady start to the season. We`ve had ups and downs in the first 11 games, and obviously we`re all striving to be more consistent. We`ve had some bad luck in games this season and a lot of the games we`ve lost have been tight encounters that could`ve gone either way apart from the Derby game. Hopefully our luck has turned with the Birmingham result though. We all spoke ahead of the game and we knew the importance of bouncing back after our previous results. We were desperate to get a positive result and thankfully it turned out to be an enjoyable afternoon for everyone at the Club.’

The Birmingham result had obviously been a huge confidence builder.

‘Winning 6-1 – you can`t really not enjoy it, can you? Games like that don`t come around too often, so you`ve got to enjoy them when they do. You could see the lift in confidence it gave everyone immediately after the game, and we have to use that going forward as we look kick on and move up the table.’
