Hull 2-0 Preston – Encouraging!

It’s not often I have to eat my words but our display against Preston was encouraging.

Hernandez knew little about his goal after the ball rebounded off him into the goal. His work rate was impressive and he helped out a lot in defence which was good to see. However he is still not the striker we need and if City can offload him even on loan they should do so even if they have to pay some of his wages.

Dawson and Davies both had impressive games and Curtis’s goal was just the icing on the cake.

Diame was not as forceful as against Rochdale but the opposition was better and he has only had two half games so far. Maloney looks a good signing from the little cameo we saw with one little shimmy at the edge of the box particularly impressive.

McGregor made a good save early on but we do need another keeper before the deadline day. Clucas was relatively quiet but maybe needs time to adjust to Championship football. Robertson is not a fullback as I’ve said before and we need more cover there.

In summary a good result which keeps us on the heels of the leaders.

So far as the transfer deadline is concerned we need another goalkeeper, another left full back and a tall striker who Akpom / and or Hernandez can feed off.

If Jelavic and Huddlestone go so be it but we must keep hold of Elmo, Dawson and Davies.

After the pain of Rochdale, Preston was an altogether more relaxing affair. PNE looked to boss the game early but couldn’t maintain the pressure and City never looked in trouble to me.
