Hull city have threatened for three weeks to put on a complete performance and today got very close to it.

For the first 20 mins we struggled to contain a very good Borough side with Fabbrini, Downing and Adomah pulling the strings. It took until just before halftime for City to score, an excellent finish from Mo Diame. Before that Andy Robertson carelessly gave away the ball in midfield and David Nugent should have scored.

McGregor who has put things right after his error against Wolves also made an excellent blocking save before Sam Clucas (what a buy he is) was alert enough to divert a Meyler shot and score the second.

It is testament to City’s strength in depth that they can bring on a substitute of the calibre of Tom Huddlestone who scored with a scorching volley into the top corner of the net to make it 3-0.

All of City’s players acquitted themselves well but special mention should go to Harry Maguire who finally got a full 90 minutes under his belt and alongside the best centre half in the Championship, Michael Dawson, and never put a foot wrong. He used his physical upper body strength to great effect hustling the Boro forwards off the ball when needed and heading away powerfully at times.

We go into the break top of the league with confidence sky high, a positive goal difference of +18 and a points total of 34 points. If you have two points from every game at the end of the season you will definitely be promoted. City have that +1 so let’s keep it up and finish top of the league. That would put us one up on the other two promotions, via the play-offs and in second place.
