There was a momentary wobble and worry for Hull but having slipped behind to AS Trencin we battled back to earn a 2-1 win, the same aggregate scoreline too, and book a place in a play-off round in the Europa League.

Following the goalless first leg draw in Zilina last week Steve Bruce freshened things up a little by making three changes, Robbie Brady, Robert Snodgrass and Yannick Sagbo came into the starting XI as Liam Rosenior, David Meyler and Sone Aluko dropped out.

A first ever European game at home was played out in front of more than 21,000 people at the KC Stadium with Hull’s attacking intent clear from the off, although it was this attacking intent that cost them as Tomas Malec shocked most in attendance as he scored a breakaway goal to give the Slovakian side a one-nil win after just two-minutes.

Not only was it a lead it was an away goal too!

Trencin threatened more goals before we started to work our way back into the game, missing some chances before Ahmed Elmohamady headed home to draw us level just before the half hour mark with the sides going into the break level at one-one.

As the second half ticked away, and a European exit on away goals was looming, with less than 10-minutes to play, having come off he bench Aluko volleyed home to give Hull a two-one lead with this lead seen through and an aggregate win secured.

Hull now face a final play-off fixture against Lokeren to determine if a place in the Europa League proper can be secured for the 2014/15 season….

Hull City: Allan McGregor, Alex Bruce (Tom Ince 66), James Chester, Curtis Davies, Ahmed Elmohamady, Robbie Brady (Liam Rosenior 56), Tom Huddlestone, Robert Snodgrass, Jake Livermore, Yannick Sagbo, Shane Long (Sone Aluko 74).
Subs Not Used: Steve Harper, Paul McShane, David Meyler, Stephen Quinn.
