Hull City manager Steve Bruce has moved to bring in long-term loan target David Meyler from Sunderland.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder, who will join up with his national side for next week`s friendlies has joined The Tigers until January and is set to go straight into the squad for Saturday`s high profile clash against fellow promotion hopefuls Cardiff City in Wales.

A combative midfielder, Bruce has pursued Meyler for several months having previously been rebuffed in his attempts to bring the player in during September. Meyler`s arrival looks set to limit imminent opportunities for McKenna and Olofinjana while Corry Evans and Robert Koren may be at risk should Bruce decide to employ a more defensive approach this month.

Bruce could add further to his squad despite the recent arrivals of Robbie Brady and David Meyler, although his urgency may have dampened after freshening up his squad to replace long term absentees.
