Hull City reserves lost away at Middlesbrough in a behind closed doors friendly played yesterday at Rockcliff Park.

Phil Brown used the game to field several City squad players, including the likes of Matt Duke and Michael Bridges. Returning midfielder John Welsh also featured after his first start in eight weeks during the Tigers last Championship outing away at Derby County.

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate also fielded a strong side with the likes of Jason Euell, Chris Rigott and Gaizka Mendieta all featuring.

Middlesbrough went ahead through striker Jason Euell who slotted home past the advancing Matt Duke. Minutes later, Euell watched as his header rebounded off the post before on the stroke of half-time, his strike gave Middlesbrough a two nil half-time advantage.

Mendieta was proving to be a problem for the Hull side as his pass found Danny Graham who made it three nil. Hull’s consolation came through striker Daryl Duffy.

Boro: Jones (Turnbull 46), Grounds, Williams, Riggott (J Johnson 68), Parnaby (Hines 46), Kennedy, Mendieta (Honeyman 68), Goulon, Euell (Walker 53), Hutchinson, Graham.
