Ben Burgess returned for Hull City reserves yesterday and made a scoring return

Match Report

The reserve team made six changes from the team that drew 2-2 against Lincoln City last week.

The most noticeable change was the inclusion of Ben Burgess. This was the strikers first action in a City shirt since he was injured in the 1-1 draw against Southampton at the KC back in October.

Matt Duke, Ryan France and Daryl Duffy also made appearances for the reserve side. Mark Lynch was due to play but pulled out at the last minute through illness.

Despite a strong looking reserve team, York City reserves took the lead as Bryan Stewart slotted the ball past Duke after only seven minutes.

Daryl Duffy looked lively and on twenty-four minutes his run and shot was deflected into the net off York City defender Dave Merris.

The sides went in level at half-time and after the break Ben Burgess looked determined to score, twice going close.

Matthew Plummer hit the bar for the Tigers as they continued to press.

Ben Burgess eventually got the goal that the fans watching wanted him to get. A long kick from Duke was put into the path of Burgess by Duffy. Clear through on goal, he put the ball past Tuffey and into York’s net.

Daryl Duffy added City’s third just four minutes later to secure victory for the City reserves.

Ben Burgess managed eighty-one minutes before he was eventually substituted.
