A changed Hull City side played well for the first 30 minutes but then fell to a sucker punch when Chris Wood stole in to score. Against a Leeds side who had only won once at home this season City were expected to cruise to victory.

Missing their captain and rock Michael Dawson City played Maguire and Bruce together at centre back. Bruce only lasted 20 mins when a back injury forced him off, being replaced by Curtis Davies. Hernandez was ill and was replaced by Aluko who played beyond Diame. Yet again our attack looked lightweight and the bench was no better. City almost conceded a second in the 33rd minute when Mowatt hit the bar.

City steadied a little before half time but Huddlestone and Livermore were not controlling the midfield as they should. Maguire surged forward on 40 minutes but his chip saw Diame stray offside before he headed the ball.

A minute before halftime City conceded again when they failed to clear a goalmouth melee and Tom Adeyemi buried the ball after a good save from McGregor.

Half time Leeds 2-0 Hull City.

City looked as if they had had a rocket at halftime and only 6 minutes in Elmohamady headed in a Clucas cross.

Midway through the second half Maguire had to come off after limping for 10 minutes. City replaced him with Akpom with Huddlestone dropping into a centre half position. The City formation seemed unusual with just Akpom upfront for a time. With 12 minutes to go City were still 2-1 down but a glancing header from Elmohamady almost levelled the scores. With 10 minutes to go Snodgrass came on for Aluko to applause from both sets of fans. A bad tempered game erupted 5 minutes from time when Belushi appeared to foul Diame and was then flattened by Akpom. City were pressing strongly but Leeds were somehow hanging on
Akpom had a glorious chance to equalise but his downward header drifted just beyond the post. That was it although Leeds contrived to waste as much time as possible. It was all City in the second half but again our lightweight attack let us down. That’s one point from nine, more like relegation form than promotion form!

Please Steve sign a big centre forward like Wood in January to give us another option upfront before our season goes pear shaped. If not try Maguire upfront once in a while.

Tony Atkin 5/12/15.
