Shaun Maloney was offered a new contract at Hull but his future was always expected to be away from the KCOM Stadium.

It hasn’t been officially confirmed but the Scottish international is set to sign for Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen, according BBC Scotland.

Maloney will join his hometown club on a free transfer provided he successfully comes through a medical at Pittodrie, signing a one year deal with Aberdeen.

Former Celtic winger Maloney, 34, who had two spells with the Hoops, joined Hull from Chicago Fire and had been involved in 14 games for City last season, rarely in the starting XI though.

However, rumours linking Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who could well leave the KCOM after a loan at Cardiff last season, with a return to Scotland at Hearts have been played down.

The Scotland keeper, formerly of Rangers, isn’t of interest to Hearts boss Ian Cathro.

Cathro was quoted by the BBC: ‘I saw that was written about, I don’t overly understand why, so I’m not going to allow that to be talked about any further. We have two goalkeepers who we are doing a lot of work with now.’

McGregor has one year left on his current contract.
