Marco Silva made 2 changes to the team that played so well against Middlesbrough on Wednesday, one enforced with the injury to Maguire being replaced by Dawson and the other tactical with Evandro coming in for Hernandez.

Manchester were the first to show when Jakupovic made a routine save from Aguerro on 4 minutes.

The game then ebbed and flowed with City holding Manchester City at bay relatively easily.

Evandro was booked on the half hour for an overzealous challenge.
The resulting free kick was taken by Toure and tipped over by Jakupovic.
A couple of minutes later slack play by City saw a ball into their box bounce off Elmohamady and into the goal. 1-0 to Manchester City.

Ironically just a minute later City had a great chance to score themselves but Evandro ‘s shot hit Niasse and went wide. Manchester City had an important chance on 35 minutes but shot over.

Neither side made any changes at halftime but only a minute into the second half slack marking allowed Sterling to pull the ball back to Aguerro who made it 2-0.

Manchester City were now well on top and Jakupovic had to make another save on46 minutes.

On 55 mins Silva made a double substitution bringing off Evandro and Clucas and replacing them with Hernandez and Henriksen. If it was designed to pep up City’s attack it back fired spectacularly when a great move involving Toure and Sterling ended with great shot by Delph that made it 3-0. Game over.

N’Diaye contrived to get himself booked on 70 minutes. Toure was replaced by Fernando on 75.

In a final throw of the dice City brought on Maloney who set up Ranocchia who scored with a crisp drive to reduce the arrears. Who knows that goal might prove priceless at the end of the season if it comes down to goal difference.

There was no further scoring and it finished 3-1 to Manchester City.

FT Manchester City 3-1 Hull City

A not unexpected result and fortunately Swansea lost to West Ham so we stay out of the bottom three. The season now hinges on the home games against Watford and Sunderland but we need at least a couple of points away as well. Points at Stoke and Palace are needed.
