Speaking to the Official Site following the three nil victory that moved Hull up to fourth place in the Championship table a pleased gaffer explained.

‘I thought we were excellent. The one thing I will say is that we`re going to have to try and be a bit patient. We all want to try and go forward quickly but Ipswich changed against us and went with five across midfield and one up front. That is the respect they showed us. It was important that we were patient and when the chances came, we took them. In the end it was a comfortable victory for us and easily our best performance of the season.’

Bruce went on to say that with a number of young lads in the side, learning the trade still, he knows they will be up and down but last night would’ve done them the world of good because it was a good team performance from everybody.

‘We could have been two up before we scored, but at least we were there creating chances and we`re pleased with the performance. Alex never lets anybody down at this level and he`s come on and got a rare goal. We then scored two totally different goals after that, one a team move where we`ve nicked possession and sprung forward with pace. It was a great run and ball in from Moses Odubajo and a great finish from Chuba Akpom. The third goal from Meyler was the kind that he either smashes into the net during training, or into the gardens of the houses behind the training ground! He often comes up with a goal for us and I`m pleased for him because he gives everything he`s got and plays with his heart on his sleeve.’

Bruce ended by saying that largely the players ‘adapted’ to what was in front of them last night and he was pleased with that because it shows they can stick to the basics and the game plan but also think on their feet to put games under their control, so it was a ‘stroll’ for us in the end and ‘all credit’ to the players for making that happen.

Defender Curtis Davies will also undergo a scan following the calf injury he picked up early on in the game.

As for Meyler, he was also beaming at full time and in his own press interviews, he explained.

‘We had to work hard because Ipswich are a good team but I thought it was a good performance all round. We created good chances and we took them, which was important. The lads at the back were excellent and Gregsy will be delighted with the clean sheet. It was probably one of our better performances over ninety minutes. We`ve shown in other games that we can put teams to the sword and last night we did. We created some good chances and we took them.’

Meyler said that with other games giving us chances to kill teams off but us not taking them, it was nice to see it click last night and it’s certainly a good confidence boost ahead of Saturday’s match against Birmingham where we can go for back to back wins again.

As for his own goal on the night, he added.

‘I was delighted to score and it was a good effort. I should have had one in the first half, but the goal was a great strike and I`m happy I could contribute to the three points against a good Ipswich side.’
