Report

Hull City reserves brought a close to their Pontin’s Holidays league campaign by defeating Sheffield United B 1-0 at Worksop’s Sandy Lane Ground yesterday.

A goal from James McGarry was enough to ensure the reserves finished with a victory.

The reserves featured a number of youth players but also three first team fringe players in the form of Mark Lynch, Robbie Stockdale and Ryan France.

Both teams had chances in the first half but the defining moment of the game came a minute before the break.

Russell fry won the ball back in the middle of the park. His ball over the Blades defence released McGarry who was able to head the ball over Green in the Blades goal.

The defensive partnership formed by Byron and Plummer has been the basis on which the reserves have built this season and this restricted Sheffield United to a series of long range efforts which didn’t cause Aspden too much trouble in the Tigers goal.

The season ended with the reserves unbeaten away from home. All three defeats the Tigers suffered came in home games at Church Road.
