Hull City defender Alton Thelwell is set to join League 1 team Leyton Orient on a three month loan deal with a view to a permanent deal.

The former Spurs defender has endured tough times since joining the Tigers as injuries have hampered his progress. After recovering from injury last season, Thelwell soon became a regular in Peter Taylor’s team.

However, Parkinson has only selected the right-back for two games this season, the latest against Burnley where the defender was subbed after forty-five minutes. With the defender not featuring last night, Thelwell has decided to make a loan move to Leyton Orient.

The defender is a solid player but with Danny Mills and Danny Coles providing competition for places at right-back, Thelwell’s chances will be limited. The move to Leyton orient allows the player to gain regular first team football, and if he impresses, Orient manager Martin Ling may attempt to make the move permanent.

Boss Martin Ling told Orient’s website: ‘We’ve taken him through to the
next transfer window, but I hope after that we can sign him permanently.

‘He brings some experience to our backline, and he can play both at
centre-half and at right-back.’

With chances unlikely in the near future, this is a wise move for Alton and we wish him all the best during his loan spell.
