Spanish midfielder Jon Toral was delighted to open his Hull City account in the weekend’s game with Nottingham Forest and he’s hoping there are plenty more goals to follow between now and the end of the season.

The Arsenal loanee opened the scoring at the City Ground in our two nil victory over Aitor Karanka’s side at the weekend, and he’s hoping that it’s the first of many more to come as we look to end the season strongly and pull up that Championship table.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media this week to reflect on the game and his goal, he admitted he’d had to bide his time since arriving at the KCOM Stadium to get off the mark, but he was pleased he’d finally been able to achieve his first strike and see it play a telling role in helping us back to winning ways.

‘It’s been a long wait for my first goal for the Club. It was nice to get the monkey off my back so to speak. It was a bit of a rollercoaster in the way it came about but I was delighted to get the goal in the end.’

With Toral missing an opportunity to open his account and the scoring from the penalty spot, seeing his effort saved, the player went on to say.

‘Thankfully I was able to forget about the penalty miss straight away. He`s a big keeper so I tried to aim for a corner and unfortunately he got a big hand to it to keep it out. But straight away I redeemed myself with the header. That was very important for my confidence. Obviously it goes without saying that I’m delighted with my first goal for the Club but most important was the fact we won and got the three points. But now the first one is out of the way, hopefully I can add to my tally and help the team pick up more positive results.’

The victory of course moved us out of the bottom three and puts us one point ahead of Barnsley who now occupy 22nd place in the table and Toral felt we had deserved that as performances of late he thought had deserved a better points return.

‘It was a very important victory. I think it was a result that had been coming with the manner of our performances of late. We all knew what we had to do ahead of the game. Everything was all planned out beforehand. We went there with a game plan and we executed it perfectly. It was a very good performance from the team and we now have to take the confidence gained from the win and use it to string together a positive run of results.’

With 943 fans making the trip to Nottingham for the game, he ended his interview with praise for their efforts and he was just content that the players had sent them on a long journey back with something to smile about.

‘I think the fans deserved the win more than anyone. They were nothing short of superb throughout the game. They’ve been behind us home and away this season and that support is very much appreciated by us all. Hopefully we can reward them with many more positive results in the coming weeks and months.’
