This week’s featured Hull City player is midfielder Stuart Green

Stuart Green was the first signing of the Jan Molby era at Boothferry Park, joining the Tigers on a year long loan deal from Newcastle United on 15th May, 2002.

Stuart Green is now the longest serving senior player at the Tigers.

Green was born in Whitehaven and joined Newcastle as a trainee and was very highly rated by the manager at the time Sir Bobby Robson. Green made it close to obtaining a Premiership debut for the Magpies, but after suffering a dislocated shoulder against Sunderland in a reserve fixture, he missed out on his opportunity.

To obtain first team action, he moved to Carlisle United in order to get first team football and became a key member of the team, chipping in with a contribution of three goals in 16 appearances.

On Boxing Day 2002, Stuart Green officially became a Tigers player, signing a contract before the opening game at the KC Stadium. The deal cost the Tigers £150,000. HE celebrated his permanent move by scoring the second goal in the opening league game at the KC in the 2-0 victory over Hartlepool United.

After a falling out with Peter Taylor, Green returned to Carlisle on loan in a deal worth £30,000 to the Tigers. In his second spell there, Green made an appearance in the LDV Final against Bristol City. However, after a falling out with manager Roddy Collins, Green was back in the Tigers camp during the 2003/04 campaign.

Green put his past differences behind him and was a pivotal part of our promotion from League 2. With good passing ability and an increased work rate, Stuart Green was a large contributor to our promotion campaign, scoring 6 goals during the season.

During the League 1 season, his contribution increased, being the club’s second top goal scorer with ten goals in league and cup competitions, only beaten by Elliott’s impressive contribution to the season. His wide right role allowed him to get forward more, and caused more problems by being able to cut inside and cause
