It remains very tight at the top of the Premier League, only four points separate five teams, but heading into this latest round of games Chelsea are the leaders after claiming this last weekend. The Blues face a potential title rival in the late kick-off on Saturday when Tottenham visit Stamford Bridge.
The fixtures will get underway, at 12:30 on Saturday lunchtime, with Burnley playing host to Manchester City. The Clarets’ home form has been impressive but City will come to Turf Moor knowing they’ve got the early chance to put down a marker to other title rivals.
West Brom, who won against Burnley on Monday, travel to the KCOM Stadium for a meeting with struggling Hull. Albion moved into the top 10 after that 4-0 win at the Hawthorns with Mike Phelan’s City side coming into this in the bottom three and seeking a home win, which could potentially get out of trouble.
After the amazing title win last season, with the performance in the Champions League so far equally as impressive, Leicester’s struggles see the Foxes just two points above the relegation zone ahead of the visit from Middlesbrough, themselves just a point and a couple of places above the bottom three.
After being held to a draw against Southampton last weekend Liverpool, who lost top spot as a result, will be expecting to get back to winning ways ay Anfield. However, despite remaining in the bottom three, Sunderland have won two in a row in the league with some momentum growing.
Momentum certainly isn’t something Crystal Palace have going into the game at bottom of the league Swansea. Alan Pardew’s job could be under threat if Palace are beaten for a sixth league game in succession when they head to the Liberty Stadium, with Swans boss Bob Bradley awaiting his first win.
Due to European involvement, from a number of clubs, we’ll also see plenty of games played on Sunday. Watford and Stoke kick this mini schedule off with a noon start at Vicarage Road with the Hornets potentially climbing as high as fifth with a win, the Potters into the top 10 depending on other results.
Arsenal remain unbeaten since the opening day of the season, when they lost 4-3 against Liverpool, with the Gunners looking to put what could be considered a ‘little blip’ in form behind them when Bournemouth visit the Emirates Stadium.
Having won, and won well with a 4-0 win over Feyenoord in the Europa League, in Europe on Thursday a meeting with West Ham will see Manchester United looking to close the gap on the top four, the Hammers are just a point and a place from dropping into the relegation places.
Completing the fixtures is a game between Southampton and Everton. This meeting at the St Mary’s Stadium will see Ronald Koeman return to his former club, having left the Saints for the Toffees in the summer, aiming to move them up to sixth. A win for the home side could see them close to within a couple of points of Everton.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
