The Championship season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend, 29th-30th September.

Fulham extended QPR’s winless run with a London derby win at Loftus Road to get things underway on Friday evening.

Saturday, when the bulk of the games were played, saw Aston Villa continue their impressive form with a fourth straight win to move to the brink of the play offs when bottom side Bolton left Villa Park empty handed.

Villa’s Midland rivals Wolves climbed up to second with a thrashing of Burton, a point behind Cardiff after the Bluebirds were held at the Cardiff City Stadium by Derby.

Both Villa and Wolves would have taken joy in Birmingham’s misery – Blues’ struggles continued when they were battered at Hull, who gained their first win in the last five.

A win at Ipswich – now beaten in three of the last five – took Bristol City up to fifth, just four points off the leaders as the Robins continued to recover from a poor start to the campaign.

Nottingham Forest, ending a three game losing run, denied Sheffield United the chance of a joint share of the Championship lead with a win over the Blades at the City Ground – it took Forest into midtable.

Simon Grayson returned to Preston – having left them in the summer – with new club Sunderland and perhaps eased the pressure on himself when guiding the second bottom Black Cats to a draw at Deepdale.

Here’s a round up of the Championship results with one game to take place.
