The Championship season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.

Emphatically, which is something Derby will hope has got their season off to a proper start, the Rams thrashed Hull 5-0 on Friday evening to start the action – this was a third defeat in four for midtable City.

Aston Villa’s disappointing start continued with a goalless draw against second bottom Brentford, who remain winless.

Leaders Cardiff dropped their first points of the campaign when they – fresh from Neil Warnock being crowned August Manager of the Month – drew at Fulham. However, the Bluebirds do remain two points clear at the top, a lead now held over one of Warnock’s old sides Leeds, who thrashed Burton 5-0 at Elland Road for a third win in a row.

Norwich’s first win in three saw them jump above fellow strugglers Birmingham – Blues are now just above the bottom three after this third success defeat.

Having suffered a first defeat ahead of the international break, Ipswich returned from it with another as QPR moved to within sight of the top-six with a victory at Loftus Road.

Sunderland are also struggling in the Championship this season, which was of course the case in the Premier League last season. A third successive Black Cats defeat saw Simon Grayson’s side slip to 20th. Meanwhile, Sheffield United; fifth, recorded a third straight win to continue their momentum from a League One winning campaign last time round.

The other half of Sheffield, Wednesday, made it five unbeaten when the Owls inflicted a second successive defeat on Nottingham Forest, who have now lost three of the last four in fact, in Saturday’s evening kick off.

Here’s a round-up of the Championship results.
