Over the years City have played over 100 different league clubs in their history, some no longer exist. This is City’s records against some more of them! (H-N)

(NB these results also include all wartime leagues, War Cups, etc.)

Halifax Town
We liked Halifax, we did. Most of the time we could always count on them to let us have some points, they even let City win a fair few as well as well as being shooting practice partners!

Played 53; Won 30; Drawn 9; Lost 14; GF 99 GA: 48.

Hereford Utd
Edgar Street and Hereford in particular were a tough gig all round. Thankfully, we never lost to them at home, now that would have been something for them to talk about!

Played 8; Won 3; Drawn 3; Lost 2; GF 9; GA 8.

Best result
15/02/1983 HCFC 2 Hereford United 0

Kidderminster
Yep, they’re not in the league at the moment, so they’re included. We generally got our own way as regards the points, and kicking rights for the next round of Cups.

Played 9; Won 4; Drawn 3; Lost 2; GF 19; GA: 11.

Best result
27/09/2003 HCFC 6 Kidderminster H 1
Allsopp, Burgess 2, Dawson, France, Green. Attn: 13,683

Leeds City
‘Formed in 1904, they were elected to the Football League in 1905. In 1912, they appointed Herbert Chapman as secretary, a role that then also carried the modern responsibilities of manager and coach. There ensued a sequence of financial irregularities, including breaking the ban on paying players during World War I, that led to the club’s dissolution in 1919. They were expelled from The Football League 8 games into the 1919-20 season. Port Vale took over their remaining fixtures. In the wake of their demise, Leeds United were formed, and entered the Football League the following year.’ (Wikipedia)

Nelson
Never lost to these lads. Ever. Mind you, they can’t have been too bad in the 10 years they existed, as they managed to take the Third Division North title in their second season! But their last season was some serious cack!

This could well have been their last professional match in the Football League, as they were demoted after the 30-31 season. It’s certainly City’s last fixture of that season.

New Brighton
A team that apparently acted as rivals to Tranmere, I believe, they being on the Wirral side of the Mersey. Never a club we worried about, although they once scored 6 against us in one game… Now, there doesn’t appear to be a team of any substance with the New Brighton name at the moment.

Newport County
Another tricky game at times, especially with the long trip to South Wales, before they were demoted from the League. We didn’t play them that often but we never had too many problems against them. Just one or two.

Played 12; Won 7; Drawn 2; Lost;: 3; GF 24; GA 14.
