Abel Hernandez continues to be an enigma. He takes a weak penalty that is saved but then has the nous to be in the right place to tap in the winner! Is he worth £10 million? No but he seems to be our only consistent goal scorer.

Steve Bruce is a great one for surprises, switching Odubajo from right back to left back and he sounded from the commentary a bit bemused early on. He got better as the game went on and his physical strength is a real bonus for City!

Listening to the commentary Burnsy and Swanny said it was City’s best opening 45 mins of the season and the penalty, a shot from Diame which hit the post and the goal certainly bears testament to this.

We were hanging on at the end though and the spectre of a late goal (ala Blackburn) always hung in the air. Fortunately Notts Forest do not have a Jordan Rhodes or a Charlie Austin.

I am disturbed by reports I hear about Diamande. He seems to have had a groin injury when we signed him and appears he could be out a lot longer than the 2-3 weeks we were originally told. More like 2-3 months I hear. Also I hear no-one had seen him play! I reserve judgement until I’ve seen him but it’s no good signing an injured player! Remember Jimmy Bullard.

I can’t be too critical after we picked up 3 points (we are joint 3rd) but a note of caution it is only 3 points below us to half way down the league.
