Hull City recorded back to back victories in the league thanks to a 1-0 victory over Championship rivals Peterborough United.

City`s clean sheet, which earned James Chester a place in the Championship “team of the week” was impressive given the home side`s reputation for scoring at London Road, emphasised by their 7 – 1 win in their last outing at home before The Tigers visited.

Apart from some early pressure, which saw McCann first shoot over before forcing a diving save from Adriano Basso, City were relatively comfortable against the attacking threat of Peterborough United.

In fact, it was City who had the better opportunities, with four arriving in the space of thirty seconds. Firstly, debutant Martyn Waghorn – who partnered former Posh striker Aaron Mclean as Matty Fryatt was dropped, saw his curling effort tipped onto the cross-bar. The rebound from Koren was saved by Jones` legs, before a drive from Mckenna was also parried away. The third follow-up effort from Rosenior was comfortably saved by Jones as he impressed in goal.

With the sides level at half-time, City opened the scoring early in the second half thanks to the returning Mclean. The City striker took Hobbs` header and half volleyed powerfully into the net. The striker maintained his pre-match promise, refusing to celebrate what proved to be the winning goal.

City defended resolutely after taking the lead, trying to play on the break as Peterborough occasionally left themselves exposed at the back. City`s best chance at extending their lead however came from defender Hobbs, who saw Jones keep out his lower header from a Cairney corner.

At the other end, Rowe missed a near open goal when side footing into the side netting while Basso showed why he has ousted Peter Gulacsi from the starting line-up, diving to his right to brilliantly deny George Boyd from finding a late equaliser.
