Watford 1 – 2 City

Hull City`s fine away form continued as victory at Watford evoked memories from The Tigers Play-Off victory in 2008.

A following of just short of 1,000 were treated to another away victory, that extended City`s unbeaten run since September to fifteen fixtures, a fine run that has kept City in constant touch of the top six.

Nigel Pearson made one change to the team that lost to Millwall, Liam Rosenior replacing Jamie Devitt. Brad Guzan was playing his last game before his loan deal expired, while James Chester was again deployed as a defensive midfielder, so allowing Jack Hobbs to partner Anthony Gerrard in defence.

The away side made a terrific start, Liam Rosenior taking advantage of some slack defending from Lloyd Doyley to cross the ball for Corry Evans who side footed in at the near post to give The Tigers a dream start. Having not lost when taking the lead, the first goal was always going to be crucial for City.

Pearson`s men were dominating the game, but didn`t create too many chances thanks to good Watford defending, Koren and Evans both seeing shots go wide while James Chester had a shot blocked on the line on the stroke of half-time.

Watford`s best chance had fallen to top scorer Danny Graham, but his left footed shot was tipped over by Guzan, while Weimann twice went close, firstly shooting at Guzan before striking his next opportunity against the rear post station.

Watford increased their tempo in the second half, with Will Buckley shooting against the post. Graham could not react to the rebound, and Guzan smothered. Graham again struck wide when in a good position while Eustance saw a goal bound header hit Weimann before being cleared to safety.

Graham was sent through again but a late touch from Guzan saw the ball edge between his legs but clear the far post.

As Watford continued to push, substitute Tom Cairney had space to move clear and cross for Robert Koren who headed into an unguarded net.

With victory seemingly in the bag, Taylor headed what proved to be a consolation for the home side, while Dawson had to be alert to prevent Marvin Sordell from converting at the far post.

The win keeps City`s top six hopes alive before the away trip to Swansea City, while the win saw the club`s fine away form go from strength to strength.
