Hull City drew 1-1 with Oldham Athletic last night as Hull continued their preparations ahead of the new season.

A first half header from Caleb Folan was cancelled out in the 70th minute by Oldham substitute Lewis Alessandra as Hull looked to respond positively to the disappointing 4-0 loss at Crewe over the weekend.

Phil Brown elected to field a strong side, naming seven substitutes and using only three during the course of the match. Anthony Gardner, signed on a loan deal on Monday made his debut by partnering Michael Turner in the first half before being replaced by Wayne Brown mid-way through the second forty-five minutes.

Andy Dawson, who had missed the last two pre-season games returned before being replaced by Sam Ricketts at half-time whilst Bernard Mendy managed close to eighty minutes before being replaced by Richard Garcia.

Speaking after the match, Phil Brown revealed that his Hull side will play an additional pre-season fixture tonight against Derby County in a behind closed doors encounter in order to ensure his team is prepared for August 16th.

Last night`s draw against Oldham was an improvement on Saturday`s humiliation at Crewe but work is still needed going into games against Hearts and Osasuna. Phil Brown is expected to use the final two games of pre-season to field his strongest team in an effort to be ready for the season opener against Fulham.

A slight improvement but still a lot of room for improvement.

Lets stay positive, we didn’t lose and lets not forget its only a friendly. I didn’t see or hear the game but as long as we showed signs of improvement from the other night at crewe its an improvement. Friendlies aren’t neccesarily about results but improving fitness and match fitness, gelling together as a squad and preparing for the games that matter. Well done Caleb. Bring on the prem!!!
