Nigel Pearson has omitted that his side`s poor home form has all but dented any hopes his team had of reaching the Championship`s top six.

Millwall were the latest visitors to the KC Stadium who took three points thanks to Steve Morrison`s exquisite first half goal, lofting the ball over Brad Guzan after racing onto a well directed long pass.

The opportunity was taken with aplomb by the away side, and was a moment of quality in an otherwise dull match. Neither team tested the opposition goalkeeper on too many occasions, with City close to snatching a draw in the final minutes when Jay Simpson`s shot went narrowly past the post.

City`s lack of profligacy in front of goal has been a real cause for concern this season, especially at home where the team has now drawn blanks on ten out of twenty occasions. Only the team`s superb away form has kept City in the hunt for a top six place, and despite staying within touching distance of the play-off places, a top six finish now looks highly unlikely for The Tigers.

City manager Pearson was frustrated at his team`s ability to capitalise on an early kick-off on Saturday by putting pressure on City`s competitors`.

‘We don’t score enough goals and when teams come here and defend deep, we don’t always have the answers unfortunately.

‘In the second half we had enough creative players on the pitch, we just didn’t handle the ball well enough and we didn’t create enough opportunities.

‘We didn’t give ourselves the best chance to win the game. It was a missed opportunity. It’s frustrating because we’re a lot better than that.’

With City having failed to win any of their last four home fixtures against promotion competitors, a run into the top six now looks highly unlikely, but with the next two fixtures away from home, and with City looking to extend their record unbeaten run, maybe the play-offs aren`t quite over yet?
