The 25,000th Premier League goal since the league was rebranded could be scored this weekend.

Since August 1992 there have been 24,975 goals scored in top flight league matches, and the average weekend sees 27 goals across all games so one lucky player could write themselves into the next landmark milestone in the Premier League.

Or of course it might be a good weekend for scoreless draws and I’ll have to try and come up with another way of rewriting this next week.

Let’s hope not.

Leicester City’s Marc Albrighton could in fact prove lightning does strike twice in the record books as he already holds the milestone of the 20,000th goal as he scored what was then an equaliser for former club Aston Villa in their two one defeat to Arsenal back in December 2011, and Leicester are in action in the final fixture of matchweek 11 as they host West Bromwich Albion at the King Power Stadium in Sunday’s late kick off.

Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs is also in the record books as he hit the 24,000th goal in their home tie against Tottenham Hotspur in November 2015, and having been involved for Arsene Wenger in their last three matches, he could also take to the pitch this Sunday.
