Recommended Places to DrinkDrinking in the town centre is generally not recommended, especially near the Bus & Train Stations, we recommend the Outpost on Sheffield Road. The pub is a ten minute walk from the ground. There is no alcohol on sale inside the ground for the away fans, but one minute away from the away end is the Metro Dome – an all in one leisure centre, which has a bar inside which serves good food and ale.

Directions BY CAR – Leave Hull via Clive Sullivan Way and join M62. Take Junction 42 and head for M1 (South). Leave the M1 at Junction 37 and take the A628 towards Barnsley. Stay on this road (the ground is well signposted) and you will eventually see the ground on your right. There is a fair sized car park located at the Ground. BY TRAIN – Barnsley railway station is about a ten minute walk away. This station is served by trains running between Sheffield & Leeds.

From the train station turn left away from the town centre and head towards the bridge that the dual-carriageway runs over. Go under the bridge and turn left up the slip road and then take the first road on the right and head towards the Metro Dome leisure complex at the top of the hill. Oakwell is now clearly visible.

Recommended Places to DrinkThe pubs near to the ground can be quite intimidating for away supporters and are not recommended. Best to drink in the city centre and get a taxi to the ground (about 5 mins). If you are walking to the ground from the city centre, then you may care to stop at the Anchor Pub on Bradford Street, renowned for its range of real ales on offer, and named Birmingham ‘CAMRA Pub Of The Year’ on more than one occasion. Although there are a number of Blues fans that frequent the pub they tend to be of the CAMRA bearded variety and therefore as long as you don’t turn up mobbed handed, you should be okay. The pub is situated just behind Digbeth coach station. Otherwise alcohol is served within the ground.

Just across the road from the entrance to the away section is a Woolworths outlet which inside has a reasonably priced cafe. There is also a McDonalds a short walk away, going back towards the city centre.

Directions BY CAR – Leave Hull via Clive Sullivan Way and join M62. Take M18 Junction and head south.Leave M18 at Junction 32 head for M1 South. Leave M1 at junction 23A and head for A42 signposted Tamworth, Birmingham. Join the M42 at Junction 11 (Signposted Birmingham, South West). At junction 4a join up with M6 and head for Birmingham. Leave the M6 at Junction 6 and take the A38(M) (known locally as the Aston Expressway) for Birmingham City Centre. Continue past the first turn off (Aston, Waterlinks) and then take the next turn off, for the Inner Ring Road.

Turn left at the island at the top of the slip road and take the Ring Road East, sign posted Coventry/Stratford. Continue along the ring road for two miles, crossing straight across three islands. At the fourth island (there is a large McDonalds on the far left hand corner) turn left towards Small Heath. Birmingham City’s ground is about a 1/4 of a mile up this road on your left. The ground is well sign posted on the Inner Ring Road.

BY TRAIN The nearest station is Bordesley, which is about a ten minute walk away from the ground, but is only served by trains from Birmingham Snow Hill. If you arrive at New Street Station in the city centre, either walk to Snow Hill (ten minutes) take a taxi (about 4) or embark on the 20 minute walk to the ground. As you come onto the concourse of New St station, bear to the left of the escalators and through the glass doors. Walk down towards to the end of the Station Service Road. Cross to the other side of the road at the bottom (where there is a new shopping centre) turn right and follow the purple pedestrian signs for Digbeth Coach Station. These will see you descending a flight of stairs at the side of the shopping centre on your left and then going down a road with the Markets on your right and a large church on your left. Follow this road around to the right and then take the next left to take you up to the main dual carriage way. Turn right along the dual carriageway, passing Digbeth Coach Station on your right and the impressive looking Crown Pub on your left. Cross over the dual carriageway to the Crown pub side of the road and continue walking away from the City Centre. You will come to a fork in the road where you want to bear left going underneath a railway bridge. Passing the Clements Arms on your left just continue straight down this road, crossing a large roundabout (with a McDonalds over on one corner). The entrance to the away section is further up the road on your left.

Recommended Places to Drink Away fans have recommended the 110 Club on Yorkshire Street near the ground. This private club allows away supporters in for a nominal admission fee (20p). The club serves good reasonably priced food and children are also welcomed. They also offer a ‘Claret & Blue’ bitter at only 1.10 per pint. Other establishments are The Bridge pub, which is around ten minutes walk away from the ground, serves good beer and food and is fine for away supporters’. Whilst the Talbot pub (opposite the Sparrow Hawk) IS GOOD for pre match drinks. It is a good sized pub with a large screen tv and plenty of sensible home fans, plus well kept real ale on tap. The Woodman Inn on Todmorden Road (about a half a mile up the road from the ground) is a small & friendly enough place for away supporters, providing they are sensible and don’t mind a bit of banter, plus the pub has a large s creen which shows Sky Sports’. The Turf Hotel on Yorkshire Street and pubs in the town centre are best avoided. Colours are best covered up in and around the centre of town’.

Directions BY CAR – As above, leave Hull via Clive Sullivan Way and join M62. Leave M62 at Junction 24 (Signposted Halifax, A629). Continue along the A629 before joining the A6026. After about 2 miles bear left onto A58. Turn right onto A6139, then left onto A646 (Head straight for Burnley) Bear right onto A671 and continue down the road for about a mile. Turn right into Eliza St then left into Higgin St. Bear left onto Harry Potts way and ground is signposted.

BY TRAIN – There are two train stations that are in walking distance of Turf Moor, Burnley Central and Burnley Manchester Road. Central station is around a 20 minute walk away from the ground and is mostly served by local trains. Manchester Road is a 15 minute walk away and is served by the faster express service. Walking directions from both are as follows:

Manchester Road

Upon leaving the station cross the main road towards the cinema. The ground should be clearly visible in the distance straight ahead. Turn left and progress down ‘Centenary Way’ an unmissable dual carriageway (A682) going downhill towards the ground. A few minutes walk down this road will bring you to a roundabout where you should turn right under the canal bridge into Yorkshire Street (A671). Continue down this road and you will reach Turf Moor on your left, with the away stand the first to be reached.

Central Station

Walk out of the station and across the road down towards a small retail area including Fads and Halfords Cycles. You will reach the inner ring road (A679), where you turn left and after about 200 yards you will reach a set of traffic lights. Turn right at the lights into Church Street (A682). Continue down Church Street until you reach a large roundabout at which you turn left under the canal bridge into Yorkshire Street (A671). Continue down this road and you will reach Turf Moor on your left, with the away stand the first to be reached.
