It’s being reported that Hull City have had a bid for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan rejected, and it’s being said that earlier next week Ryan Mason with meet with a fresh specialist as he looks for clarity on whether or not he can continue with his playing career following the horrific head injury he sustained.

Beginning with the Bannan speculation, Sky Sports reported yesterday that Wednesday had rejected our offer for the Scottish international.

Having joined them from Crystal Palace initially on a one year deal back in 2015, he quickly established himself as a regular and a fan favourite and signed a three and a half year extension in January 2016.

He has made 87 appearances for them so far, scoring four goals.

With Sam Clucas completing what is believed to have been a £16.5million move to Swansea City, although the deal is officially undisclosed, it’s believed that Leonid Slutsky sees Bannan as the ideal replacement.

That is where the speculation ends.

As for Mason, he fractured his skull in a clash of heads last January and the Daily Mail are reporting that two different doctors have given differing opinions on whether the former Tottenham Hotspur man can fully recover enough from the injury to restart his football career.

With one opinion saying he should be fine, subject to wearing protection like Arsenal’s Petr Cech, the other believes it would be safer to retire, so they report that on Monday he will see a third specialist to work out where he goes from here.

The 26 year old suffered an accidental clash of heads with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill, and he hasn’t played since, but he has been training all summer with the club with the view to making a return.

They report the club have put the decision firmly in his hands and that of his family, which is only right, but they also say the player himself is hoping for positive news.

We can only cross our fingers and hope he gets the news everyone would welcome.
