All Tigers fans will be anxious as to these results as the big striker has only just returned from a horific knee injury that had sidelnied him for almost the entire promotion campaign from League 1 last season. Having battled back, there are now fresh fears he may have to serve a stint on the touchlines.

Manager Peter Taylor told the Mail: ‘We’re all worried for Ben.

‘It looks like it’s the same knee although it is too early to say what might have happened.

‘It looks like he twisted it when he landed but at the moment we don’t know how serious it is.

‘I just hope it’s not another long lay-off. He’s a smashing boy. He’s done ever so well to come back and he doesn’t deserve this.’

Team-mate Curtis Woodhouse said: ‘All the lads have got their fingers crossed for Ben. He’s a great lad and he deserves a bit of luck.’

Burgess was rushed to hospital during last night’s game, but it could be another 24 hours before City are certain of the exact damage he’s sustained.

The injury will be an addition to the several already facing the Tigers, with lengthy injuries to Danny Coles, skipper Ian Ashbee and Stephen McPhee as well as Andy Dawson, Roland Edge and Keith Andrews.

Taylor added: ‘It just seems our bad luck is going on and on. There’s nothing you can do about it and we will battle on.’

Hopefully Ben and others will be back as soon as possible.
