20 year old Jarrod Bowen’s continued progress at Hull City this season has been noted as the lad has been named the EFL Young Player of the Month for August.

The 20 year old took the monthly recognition in light of his four goals in five appearances – his first goals in our senior shirt – and it doesn’t look like his goalscoring touch has deserted him during the international break as he found the net against Fulham in midweek as well.

Speaking to the Official Site a delighted Bowen explained.

‘I’m delighted to win this award and it just shows the kind of month that I had really – it’s certainly a month that I will always remember. My main aim was to try and hit the ground running at the start of the season but really it just felt as though the month kept getting better and better for me.’

Speaking about his goals, and his debut goal in particular, he went on to say.

‘Scoring against Aston Villa on the opening day was great, and I remember seeing the ball hit the back of the net and just wanting to run towards the away end as quickly as I could because I knew all of my family were in there. I knew they were near the front and my dad managed to jump down to celebrate with me. The month just seemed to build for me from that point on with the goals against Queens Park Rangers and Bolton Wanderers. I’ve mainly been playing out wide but my game really is about getting in there to score goals.’

Adding.

‘The Villa goal was probably my favourite because of the significance of it being my first senior goal for the Club, but it was nice to score with a header against Bolton as well because those are rare for me, although I did manage another one against Fulham last night!’

Bowen ended by saying that he came into the season with the aim of simply getting off the mark for the club, so to already have five to his name is extremely pleasing.

‘It was four in six games last month so if you carry on with that ratio, that’s a lot of goals! In all seriousness, though, double figures would be lovely. That is my next goal and if I can achieve that, we’ll see where it takes us.’
