2016/17 didn’t end in the fashion anybody at Hull City would’ve have hoped for but one bright spot was the emergence of youngster Jarrod Bowen.

The 20 year old began the year focusing on his progression with the Development Squad but having been picked for the first team squad in their preseason, he admitted he would’ve more than taken that as a positive for the year.

Ending the campaign with nine appearances for the side was very much the cherry on the cake.

Speaking to the Official Site as he reflects on the past 12 months, Bowen explained.

‘At the start of the season I went away with the first team squad for pre-season and that was something I would have taken 12 months ago with nothing else. I managed to score in a couple of the friendly games and stayed involved with the matchday squads when the season started.’

Despite the disappointment of ending the campaign with relegation and a return to the Championship, he went on to say.

‘Going on to play seven times in the Premier League and a couple of times in the cup competitions has made it a good year for me, but unfortunately for the team it hasn`t been a very good one and sadly we will be in the Championship next year. For me, I just want to have another good pre-season and see what happens from there. I`ll be patient like I have been all the way through this season. I`ll aim to hit the ground running and if and when my chance comes, I`ll aim to take it.’

With a lack of a head coach and plenty of players linked with a move away, Bowen may get a second season of good game time as we look to rebuild once again.
