Manager Steve Bruce has apologised to the fans for our ‘rubbish’ first half display against Aston Villa at the weekend.

Hull went in at the break two nil down in the encounter, and it could’ve been more to be fair, especially as we created very little of note ourselves.

The second half was better and more like us though, so some heart can be taken from that showing as we almost got ourselves back into the game, getting the goal through Jelavic and then testing their keeper on a number of occasions but we had given ourselves too much of a mountain to climb sadly.

Speaking to the Official Site once he’d calmed down a touch, and building on his initial responses, the gaffer explained that he felt it was the worst 45 minutes we had played since he joined the club.

‘You have to hold your hands up after the debacle of the first half. The response after half time was good, but for how good we were in the second half we were that bad in the first.’

Bruce goes on to say you simply can’t tolerate showings like that in the Premier League because you are always going to be punished.

‘It isn’t acceptable. To the supporters, I’d like to apologise for the rubbish that was served up in the first half. I’ve never seen so many of my players play so badly. You can look for excuses, analysis etc, but we simply had too many underperforming.’

Bruce goes on to repeat that although he was pleased with the response and he felt we had done enough to at least earn a point by full time, ultimately ‘we’d given ourselves too much to do after the rubbish we served up in the first half.’

He went on to talk about doing the basics right, and having the right hunger and desire in football and ended his interview by saying he hadn’t given the players the opportunity to explain their no show, and he wasn’t going to, because whatever they said he wouldn’t be accepted it.
