City claw back some pride tonight?

The trip to Millwall has never been a happy one for the Tigers over the years. For some reason, ?Wall have nearly always had the upper hand and during the 70?s, City only gained 1 point in 9 visits to the Den, despite much effort. In fact, in 25 visits to SE London, City have only 3 wins to their credit, the last being in 1986, when Frankie Bunn snatched the winning goal in front of a pathetic 4,300 crowd, admittedly that was a Tuesday night game too.

However, the state of morale amongst the Millwall players is apparently starting to waver, in the face of off-the-field woes and fan disenchantment, and it?s possible City could spring a surprise and take all 3 points. All this is providing they DON?T start the ?defending what we have? game that has seen points lost, points that would have eased worries about relegation. This division is so close that the difference those points would have made would have probably seen City comfortably sat in mid-table.

The season has seen City play better away from the KC, and perhaps the weight of our expectation has been getting to the players in a small way, not wanting to disappoint and yet it?s the defensive attitude that a goal appears to bring that starts the grumbling of a section of the City faithful. Are the players frightened of the opposing forwards? It appears that every time the team lose a lead through being defensive, the manager states that the opposing forwards were running the show. In my opinion, the forwards should not be allowed to dictate matters like that, if it means City picking up a few yellow cards at this stage of the season, then so be it.

Perhaps it IS a mental weakness that the team have collectively but it’s one that needs sorting. Does City employ a sports psychologist to help in these modern times? By now I would have thought that one was needed in the club as the players need to shake off the attitude that seems to afflict them.

Tonight at Millwall, the team have a good chance to get a win, as getting one on Saturday?s visit to Cardiff will not be that easy. Let?s hope we see a change in City?s attitude, we may have been good enough to defend leads in the last couple of seasons, this time we?re not. Far better to keep playing the sensible football that got the goal in the first place, rather than to change, through being scared of losing. Millwall are there for the taking, let?s take them, lads.

PT says he dos not send out the team to play in that annoying deep defensive manner yet they do it game after game. I really cannot understand how, if these are not his instructions, he lets them get away with it, surely he should “manage” them? I certainly don’t see him by the pitch waving his arms in a get upfield sort of way!
Let’s hope tonight is not treated as the Crewe away game was and we go for a draw, we can AND MUST get these three points.
ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK!
