City Duo Back In Training After Operations

City duo Anthony Gardner and George Boateng have both returned to light training and both are hopeful of featuring against Newcastle United at the weekend.

Anthony Gardner missed City’s last outing against Wigan Athletic but following a successful operation on his thigh to remove some clotted blood, the central defender has resumed light training and could play on Saturday.

Wayne Brown took Gardner’s place in the team against Wigan but should the former Spurs man fail to feature on Saturday, Phil Brown could hand a debut to either Kamil Zayatte or Paul McShane after both players joined the club in the lead up to the closing of the transfer window.

Hull City’s Phil Brown has also been boosted by the sight of George Boateng back in training, although the midfielder is still rated at 50/50 to feature on Saturday. Boateng has seen a Dutch specialist in an attempt to cure a thigh problem suffered on the opening day of the season but despite receiving successful treatment, the Newcastle game may be too soon for the veteran midfielder.

Boateng’s experience in the centre of the park has been missing in recent weeks and Dean Marney will continue in Boateng’s place at Newcastle should the former Middlesbrough man fail to feature.

I hope the Boat is back, we need his experience in Midfield. Not so bothered by Gardner, as we now have numerous options, but think he will cope better against Owen than Brown would.

Completely disagree with last comment. I think we badly need both players back as Turner and Gardner look like a good partnership at the back. I reckon Zayatte will play at either right or left back. Is Cousin eligible to play??

Cousins banned, red card in the old firm clash. Brown is WAY too slow to handle the pace of Owen, well, anyone for that matter lol, you saw how he coped against Wigan. I’d like to get a look Zayatte though. Maybe play Ricketts on the left with McShane on the right. i already think this is what Browny has in mind for his first choice.

I think gardner should replace Ashbee, his speed and positioning is awful, Gardner can do a MUCH better job for you guys. Good luck.
