City Expecting Tough Battle

With the opening day little over 24 hours away, we have the results of the recent Vital Hull poll – ‘What will the West Brom result be?

Although everyone is excited about the prospect of Football League football returning again, 57% of fans that voted reckon that recently relegated West Brom will take all three points.

Despite having relegation from the Premiership still fresh in their mind, West Brom have managed to keep hold of star players such as Zoltan Gera and Curtis Davis to make a team that should be more than capable of challenging for honors. Add in the likes of John Hartson who West Brom signed during the summer and the magnitude of City’s opening game soon becomes apparent.

With City still awaiting late fitness results on Damien Delaney and Jon Parkin, a squad that has been affected by injuries over Pre-season won’t be relishing an away trip to one of the favorites for Promotion. With over 2,000 away fans traveling to cheer on the Tigers as they start the 2006/07 season, most fans will be looking for a good performance more than the result. With not many expecting a favorable City result, any points will be a welcome start to the campaign before two home games which the Tigers can feasibly pick up six points from.

Fortunately not everyone predicts doom and gloom and 30% reckon that the recent effects of relegation may favor the Tigers as they take all three points from the fixture. Three points would be a fantastic start to the season – especially against a very good side. Last season, all three relegated clubs suffered surprise opening day results as they failed to acclimatize to their new surroundings and perhaps City fans are hoping the same will apply to the Baggies – we all remember Luton winning at Crystal Palace last season when no-one would have thought of it.

More realistic could be the draw – an option many fans would take now although only 14% of Vital Hull readers reckon that will be the eventual outcome.
