Out of a lack of any real news, I decided to join the analysis of the start to the season. Compared to the starts over the last 10 seasons, the start of the current season compares like this:
Season W D L F A PTS Final Pos
2007/08 LC 3 3 4 13 13 12 ???
2006/07 LC 2 2 6 8 14 8 21st
2005/06 LC 3 3 4 7 7 12 18th
2004/05 L1 6 1 3 15 12 19 2nd
2003/04 D3 6 3 1 24 11 21 2nd
2002/03 D3 2 5 3 13 14 11 13th
2001/02 D3 6 3 1 19 8 21 11th
2000/01 D3 2 6 2 10 11 12 6th
1999/2000 D3 3 3 4 9 11 12 14th
1998/99 D3 2 1 7 11 20 7 21st
Although most managers and coaches say that nothing can be seen until 10 games into the season, in City’s case, the last 10 years have shown that a good start is not necessarily a guarantee of success (2001/02) and that a poor start doesn’t mean failure (2000/01). Of course, off the field activites shaped those seasons and we know what happened subsequently.
From what we have seen this season, there is definite hope that if just one aspect of City’s performance can be improved, namely conceding fewer goals, then the lack of apparent strikers can be overcome. Although that’s not to say we couldn’t do without a goal or two more from them though! Once the injuries are cleared up, there is no reason why City cannot make at least 12th-15th by the end of the season, in this tight division.
If we improve our squad we should get to middle table.
mid table aim.
Last season we went on to leak a shed load of goals which ultimately got Parky the sack, the back four have looked relatively solid thus far, let’s hope Daws can regain his confidence and Caleb starts to repay that record transfer fee.
