Collins calls for strikers

The centre-back, recently acquired from League 1 outfit Port Vale, believes that the second half of the season will be a lot more comfortable if manager Peter Taylor can bring in a new striker.

I think the one thing that we lack at the moment is a 20 goal a season striker, but maybe this isn’t the best situation. We aren’t getting the service into our current front men. The problem isn’t really the strikers, but the service – a problem we have had all season and what is yet to be sorted out.

We have struggled this season, and the lack of goals is why we find ourselves six points clear of the drop zone. Our defensive record speaks for itself (one of the best in the league) and if we can add a few goals at the other end, we could easily move up the table.

We have a few injuries, but when they clear up (Burgess and McPhee) we could be in a better position to look at our strikers.

Collins said, ‘I think the one area we need to strengthen is in attack. Macca and Ben are injured and we could do with reinforcements in their positions.

‘With players coming back from injury, we are looking pretty healthy in other areas of the pitch, but we could do more strikers. I’ve read about the club being linked with Grant Holt at Rochdale, and he certainly bangs a few in for them, but we’ll just have to wait and see.’

I seriously doubt it will be Grant Holt – it is one of Taylor’s usual smokescreens but I hope whoever we sign does have Championship experience to help us out. I am looking forward though to who it might be. Check back here each day for latest news, and more stories and reports about who this striker will be.
