Following on from the weekend’s defeat to Brighton, defender Michael Dawson has said Hull need to take full advantage of a quick fixture turnaround that sees us face Cardiff tomorrow evening.

Speaking to the Official Site on the back of our second defeat of the season, the skipper explained.

‘We`ve certainly got to pick up our away form if we`re going to win promotion. You can`t afford to drop too many points and we already have done with losses at Charlton and Brighton. We`ve got another tough away game coming up at Cardiff on Tuesday night and thankfully we have the chance to put things right very quickly after Saturday.’

Dawson went on to use the old cliche that at least after disappointments in the Championship, more often than not you do get a game that comes ‘thick and fast’ where you can make up for it and get back to winning ways and that’s a positive we have to grasp now to ‘put things right asap.’

As for the Brighton match itself, he went on to say for him it was a tail of two halves and clearly we weren’t at the races in the first period.

‘It was a game of two halves. Our performance was non-existent in the first half and we could have been more than one goal down by half time. We then dominated the second half but did we have any clear-cut chances? No, probably not. We passed the ball better and Brighton brought everybody back behind the ball. Overall, we let ourselves down with our first half performance. If you give the ball away in bad areas, teams are going to punish you. We can`t keep letting the gaffer lose his voice at half time, we have to have a look at ourselves. I`m sure it was a long trip back for our supporters who made a big effort to get to the game and I`m sure it was a big disappointment for them.’

As for early team news ahead of the game, manager Steve Bruce said in his own pre game press conference that we didn’t have any fresh problems to concern ourselves with following the weekend’s action.

‘We`re still in the learning process but we now have a good nucleus of players to work with day in and day out to find a system that suits us. We predominantly play 4-4-2 and with Diame coming back from injury it gives us that excellent problem, but of course it`s where do you get the best out of him. A free role is key to him and it`s something that we`re looking at. We have to find the right away formula to make sure we`re better than we were in the first half at Brighton and Charlton to give us a chance of getting a win.’

With no fresh injury concerns, it does mean we continue to be without Shaun Maloney (knee), Adama Diomande (groin) and Robert Snodgrass (knee).
