Dazed Review – Wolves visit the KC

After what Would be classed as a successful week previously at Southampton and Southend and starting to climb out of the relegation zone we faced potentially a tough game at home to a Wolves side who had taken most of the teams by surprise and found themselves in the play off places despite a very threadbare squad to pick from ?

Danny Mills had returned from suspension and so slotted back into the Right back position with Ricketts moving over to the left as Andy Dawson made way ? other than that it was as you were at Southampton with Ash still banned so Coles was handed the captaincy and Jarrett made his home debut in a 4-5-1 which turned out to be a lot more of a 4-3- than most people, including me, expected ?

As the game got under way we looked hungry from the off and Parkin came close with a well carved out opportunity only for the keeper to deny him at the last moment ? This ended up being Parkins last contribution to the game as he fell awkwardly and had to be stretchered off with what looked like ankle damage ?

Fagan then wasted a good opportunity when Marney played him through only for his shot to be very wayward ? as the half wore on we looked more and more in control and never really looked in danger with Myhill not having much to do in the Hull Goal ? not too long after he missed his last chance Fagan got himself into the box and on the end of a free kick routine which ended up with the ball in the back of the net ?

Wolves then had their best spell of the game and came close on a couple of occasions without us looking too troubled ? but then we seemed to get ourselves back into the game as the half came to a close ?

Half Time – Hull City 1 – 0 Wolves

As the second half got underway we seemed to carryon in the same vein as we ended the first half creating good chances for the likes of Forster who went close with a header, this carried on and eventually led to a second goal ?

A pinpoint pass from Marney went over the full back for Fagan to run on, the full back chased back and it looked like Fagan had nowhere to go, then out of nowhere he had beaten his man and gone along the byline, he then squared it across to Elliott who coolly finished ? the goal was deserved and killed off any chance that wolves had of getting back into the game ?

After the goal we carried on trying for more and play was cruelly stopped as Delaney was sent clean through on goal ? the ref had become too much of a stop start referee and was ruining the game by now ? Fagan had another good chance as we looked for a third goal and never looked like conceding as our defense sniffed out any wolves attacks and soon stopped them early with Coles and Mills particularly being strong at the back ?

So the end of the game came and three fully deserved points as our climb up the table continues, next one in sight is a Certain Crystal Palace who seem to be in free fall at the moment ?

Anyway Player Ratings

Myhill – 7? Did not have a save to make all game that I recollect ? solid around his area and kicking improved once again ?

Ricketts – 7? Replaced Dawson on the left back and looked every bit as composed as always ? really personally think he will be our first choice left back in time ? a lot hinges on whether we can keep Mills or not for longer ?

Turner – 7? Followed the Southampton performance with another assured display ? slowly developing into the centre back that I am sure that Parky saw in him when he bought him ?

Coles – 8? Watching him and Mills working together is a joy at times as they seem to be on the same wavelength ? showing us yet again the presence we have missed at the back last season and most of this season so far ?

Mills – 8? Back at right back and looked a lot better for it ? stormed forward at the right times and marshaled the defense as you would expect from him ?

Elliott – 9? Like a man possessed at times! I must hold my hands up and say that if he puts in performances like he has done the last couple of games then I will admit I was wrong, maybe this asthma problem he had affected him more than we all thought ? Well Done Stu ?

Marney – 8? Again showing a little bit more of why we bought him, very powerful in the challenge (but fair I must add!) and strong running forward at the right times, some of his passing was a joy to watch especially the one to Fagan for the build up to the second goal ? all we need from him now is a goal and then watch him fly!

Jarrett – 7? Good home debut from the lad, he looks a good defensive midfielder no doubt about that one! Did the simple things right and more importantly at the right times to break up attacks at crucial points ?

Delaney – 7? This guy is starting to look a very good centre midfielder at the moment ? Taylor saw something in him last year to try this and now Parky is following this on nicely ? really wish the ref had not have blown when he was clean through as a goal from him would have topped off a very good afternoon for us ?

Fagan – 9?What can you say about him that the reports so far have not done already? This guy is getting better and better ? got another goal which was good to see and his set up for the second was absolute genius!

Parkin – 6? Not on long enough to really comment, had a good chance though but more importantly get well soon Beast!

Subs

Forster – 7 ? Led the line very well in Parkins absence and would be my choice next week ? not bad if you can bring a guy like this on to replace Parkin ?

Welsh – 6 ? Not on long enough to really comment ?

Top Tiger? Elliott in my opinion, from when he steamrollered through someone in the first half and his none stop running through the game, fully deserved the ovation that he got when he came off ? nice to see him get another goal as well ?

Tigers Tail? no one played bad enough to warrant a title like that to be honest ?

Parky`s Performance – 8/10?Stuck with the system that has yielded us points except it was a little more attacking than in previous games ? his work with Phil Brown seems to be going well and as a team we look a lot better than say a month or so ago ?

Ref Watch – 5/10?First 20 minutes or so was pretty damn good to be honest but he went downhill way too quickly, a bit too whistle happy at times ?

Crowd Watch – 7/10? not big in numbers but the atmosphere felt a lot better than of late, minutes silence observed admirably as well I would like to just point out

where to from here?? Stoke at home and a good chance to get another three points and dare I say it over take Mr. Taylor and Palace, we are starting to do well one step at a time and if we keep this progress up then who knows where we could end up!
