Fans turn on Taylor

Peter Taylor came under fire from the travelling City supporters at crewe yesterday, with chants of ‘You don’t know what youre doing’.

Taylor moved away from his trusted 4-4-2 formation yesterday and appeared to start the game with a 4-5-1 formation with Fagan playing as the lone striker upfront, once again 3 of our best players were left on the bench (Elliot, Barmby and Paynter)

To think we were playing against a team in the bottom 3, we let them control the game throughout. Our midfield gave them the freedom of Gresty Road and we were lucky to be only one goal down.

When we were trailing 2-1 Taylor made his substitions with Fagan one of those coming off,now i aint no manager but even i would think if your chasing the game you keep your strikers on.

It was at this point that the City fans started to get restless,’You dont know what youre doing’ was being sang by the travelling City faithful, and after the match Taylor said: ‘They keep telling me I don’t know what I’m doing but I signed Billy Paynter.

‘They (the fans) pay their money and they are fantastic supporters.

‘However, I was disappointed with that reaction and I’m disappointed I’ve been here three years and they tell me I don’t know what I’m doing.’

He added: ‘Four matches in eight days – I cannot believe that’s the programme. It’s too many matches in too short a space of time so you can’t afford to just use 11 players.

‘We’ve got to use as many players as we can and keep them as fresh as we possibly can.’

Taylor went on to say City deserved a draw but was again critical of his side’s defending, for the second match running.

He explained: ‘The point was fair enough although I wouldn’t have said it at half-time.

‘In the first half, we defended poorly and they were two rubbish goals.

‘I said to the team at half-time that it was the defence that was letting us down – and I meant that.

‘The system that we started with was fine and the front three did all right and the midfield did all right but we were causing ourselves problems by not defending properly.’

Taylor praised Paynter whose stunning 25-yard strike in the 80th minute stopped City slipping further into the relegation mire.

He added: ‘It was a fantastic strike. It was a very important goal and that’s three in not too many games.’

Paynter, who was linked with a move to Crewe earlier this season, said: ‘It’s the best goal I’ve ever scored. I caught it well and there was only once place it was going – the top corner.’

We have Ipswich Tommorrow night and i hope for his sake that Taylor starts with a 4-4-2 formation and allows Paynter & Fagan to start up front together.

The fans are starting to get twitchy now (With, it seems good cause)and i fear a bad result on wednesday night will lead to more negative chants.
