Shaun Maloney, already linked with a return to Scotland at Aberdeen, could be reunited with his former Celtic boss, Neil Lennon, at Hibernian should, as anticipated, he leave Hull at the end of his contract this summer.

According to the Sun, via the Scotsman, Hibernian are ready to ‘battle it out’ with Aberdeen as Hibs prepare for their return to the Scottish Premiership, spending the past few seasons in the second tier in Scotland.

Lennon’s previous with Maloney, 34, could play a part in taking him to Easter Road? Then again the Scottish international is Aberdeen-born. Whatever happens it was reported a ‘large wage cut’ would be required for a return north of the border, it almost certainly would.

The Evening Express report a decision will be made by Maloney next week as to where, assuming he does indeed depart the KCOM Stadium, he’ll go with Aberdeen, who wouldn’t be drawn on interest in taking the forward to Pittodrie, his preferred destination.
