Hull City take on Burnley looking to bounce back from the Boxing Day defeat against Leicester City. The Tigers now find themselves five points adrift of safety after Barnsley beat Burnley, and if City have any aspirations of avoiding the drop, they must do the same. This game must end with three points for the Tigers, there is no other option!

Vital Quotes:

Hull City Team News:

Nick Barmby and Stephen McPhee may both return after both players trained during the week following their respective injuries.

Danny Coles was sent-off against Leicester and will now miss City’s next three matches, starting tomorrow. Michael Turner will partner Damien Delaney in the centre of the defence.

After making a substitute appearance against Leicester, striker Jon Parkin will also be hoping to force his way back into the first-team following a five week absence.

Player to watch: Craig Fagan

The only man who shows his desire every week, but is this because he is putting himself in the shop window? The striker is yet to sign a new contract on his deal which runs out in the summer, worrying many fans that the player will leave for nothing in the Summer. However, as long as he gives his full commitment to the cause, there can be no arguments.

Burnley Team News:

Burnley are expected to name the same sixteen that lost on Boxing Day at Barnsley. Injuries have taken their toll on the Burnley players, leaving manager Cotterill with only sixteen first-team players available.

The most noticeable absentee is their star striker Andy Gray.

Player to watch: Steve Jones

In the absence of Gray, Burnley’s threat will come from quick winger Steve Jones. The winger was signed from Crewe in the summer and he has put in a string of decent performances that shot Burnley towards the top of the table.

Match Prediction:

Hull City need the victory, but if they play how they did against Leicester City, there will be no chance of the Tigers recording any. The Leicester result must be put behind us and we must re-find the form that saw us demolish Cardiff City 4-1.

Vital Hull prediction: Hull City 1 – 0 Burnley

It’s a long shot but we can’t think of anything less!

a long shot 1 – 0 will be fine matt…..we must show a clinical and determined performance on saturday…we have to start picking up some serious points and putting together a consistent performance..

  • Rabid Rob says:

Given our performances at the back, plus Turner coming in, in place of Coles, does not inspire me to much in the way of confidence!!

  • Tigerphil says:

We have to win this one and the wednesday matche, if we don’t then, I think we will be down for sure.
