Hull City traveled to Elland Road to take on Leeds United in a crucial Championship relegation clash.

Phil Brown had to make several changes to the starting line-up. Ian Ashbee was absent through illness whilst David Livermore wasn’t allowed to play due to a clause in his contract. Ryan France and Danny Coles came into the three man midfield whilst Michael Turner was called up to partner Damien Delaney in defence.

City were cheered on by a traveling support of three thousand but couldn’t find a way past the Leeds defence. In a game of few chances, it was Leeds that had the best chance of the game when a header from Kandol was tipped brilliantly over the bar by Boaz Myhill just before half-time.

City’s best chance fell to Craig Fagan but he couldn’t direct his effort on target after a powerful run down the left wing.

Craig Fagan was a constant threat as the Leeds defence appeared unable to cope with the explosive striker. Unfortunately, City were dealt an early blow when Stephen McPhee was forced to limp off. The extent of this injury is still unknown.

By the end of a game that had few chances, a draw was fair but one that did not aid either teams survival cause. With Barnsley losing, both teams are now only two points from safety, meaning City’s Boxing day clash with Leicester City is critical.

Defenders Andy Dawson and Damien Delaney were the pick of a solid team performance that saw City come back from their near rivals with a point. With Phil Brown still harboring desires of landing the managerial job permanently, the City players know that only a win against Leicester City will aid Brown’s cause.

A match preview for the Leicester game will appear on the site tomorrow at 12 Noon.
