In our recent poll, readers of Vital Hull voted to say that John Hartson would be a quality signing for the club.

The West Brom striker has found his first-team opportunities limited in recent weeks and this has led to rumour that the player is out of favour at the Hawthornes.

Despite making an encouraging start to his Baggies career, which included two debut gaols against Hull City, Hartson soon found his chances limited through the signing of Kevin Phillips and the form of Diomansy Kamara. Saturday’s game against Premiership outfit Middlesbrough in the F.A Cup saw both strikers score, showing the trouble Hartson has at breaking into the Albion team.

Reports on the availability of Hartson have varied depending on the source. Whilst some outlets have reported that Hartson is available for loan, others have stated that Mowbary is keen to keep hold of the former Celtic and Arsenal striker.

Our latest poll recorded a total of fifty-five percent saying he would be a great signing for the club. The Tigers currently have Jon Parkin and Dean Windass providing the physical presence up-front but John Hartson would be head and shoulders above both players.

The Tigers have started to adopt a different stance in the transfer market with the search for experience replacing the former regime of looking for youthful promising players. This was noted in a recent Adam Pearson interview where he said the summer would see the club sign four experienced players rather than seven inexperienced ones from the lower leagues.

twenty-nine percent of fans aren’t so confident saying the move would never happen and unfortunately I tend to agree. Hartson is rumoured to have recently rejected an approach from Swansea City for his services and Hartson would probably view Hull City as a club he could do better than. If a higher Championship club didn’t make a move for the experienced striker, I would be very surprised.

Sixteen percent said the signing would not be a good move for the club but we will have to anxiously wait and see what Phil Brown plans to do. Brown still has five weeks with which to make loan signings, meaning he has plenty of time before making his move for any desired target.
