Hull Still Need A Defender

Our recent poll, suggested by Vital Hull member Killercbrn asked where should we strengthen in the January transfer window. Here are the results.

With forty-five percent of the vote, a defensive hard man was top of your list whilst a general defender was voted second with thirty-four percent of the voting.

Having watched two dismal displays where City conceded nine goals in two outings, it looked like the Tigers certainly needed more defensive options, but with Damien Delaney returning to the centre of the defence, the backline has started to look more sturdy.

The defence has conceded two goals in the last two games, but whilst the defence are playing well, the strength in depth looks worryingly thin. With Sam Collins out for the season, Michael Turner, a player not rated by many fans is our only centre-back defensive cover.

In third place, fans voted saying that a midfield playmaker was required, but after Saturday’s performance, it would appear Dean Marney can fulfill that role providing he keeps up his current performances. With several strikers already at the club, it was no surprise to see only two percent say we need new options.

Although it appeared City struggled early on in the season for goals, it was a lack of service rather than a lack of ability.

With a new manager expected to take over the reigns of the Tigers in the near future, we will have to wait and see who the new manager wants and where he thinks we need to strengthen in order to escape the relegation zone.
